Franciacorta is a sparkling wine that comes from the Lombardy region of Italy. It is made in the traditional method, just like Champagne, with the secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle. Franciacorta is usually made with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, although Pinot Bianco is also permitted. The wine has a pale yellow color, and the bubbles are fine and persistent. On the nose, Franciacorta has aromas of citrus, apple, and pear, with some brioche and vanilla notes from the lees aging. On the palate, it is dry, fresh, and crisp, with flavors of lemon, green apple, and almond.
